 "Nice cheap harp" 2006-04-02
By Rocketeer
This harp is ok to have as a spare, but I would not recommend using it to learn on. It just sits in my truck as a spare harp to mess with during lunch breaks and when I have to wait on someone. It is alright for this, but its prob better to invest another 10 dollars and get a nicer one. The Marine Bands from hohner are a favorite of mine and are perfect to learn on. Its ok for the price.

"Old Stanby Review by a Mom" 2007-03-09
By M. Burk (CO)
We have had an Old Standby harmonica for years. My kids--ages 8 and under--have played and played with it, blowing it, biting it, stepping on it, throwing it. And the harmonica still works and sounds good. It is a very sturdy and dependable harmonica that is well constructed. Highly recommended. I also give them as gifts since they are not too pricey.

Hohner's diatonic harmonicas set the industry standard through their high quality construction, excellent response and unsurpassed tone. Often called "Blues Harps", they have been a fixture as melody and accompaniment instruments in blues, rock, country, and folk bands, as well as many other styles of music and musical ensembles. Richter tuning and undivided air channels allow for bending and overblowing the reeds, creating the signature wailing sound typical of the harmonica.

 "Good harp for beginners" 2009-08-21
By bjs10191
This is my first harmonica; it's good to learn to play on but it is difficult to blow the tenth hole or draw the first, and has been ever since I bought it. Other than that it works very well.

"the blues always sounded best on the cheap" 2009-10-16
By C. M. Cinalli (Does it matter?)
I must admit, I've never had a problem with this brand Ol standby and they bend so well. Definitely sound better than the more expensive kind.

Buy 'em, try 'em, and die to 'em.

The blues never felt so good.

"As good as the Blues Harp and Marine Band!" 2009-10-23
By Gary Jason (Wisconsin USA)
I found the "Old Standby" vitually no different than the Blues Harp or the Marine Band at a much lower cost.

It plays well, is well constructed , and the notes bend just fine.

I will likely buy "Old Standby's" when looking for harmonica's from now on.
